Tharax

The smallest of the seven great powers, about 900,000 people, holds the high valleys and plateaus of the southern Karzhan Spine and the Tharaxi Gap. It is ruled by two kings from the Deneskid and Sastorid lines, in 1146 Kenithor Deneskid and Lekakor Sastorid. They are checked by the Thirty, a council of elders over sixty, and by five Skekar, elected each year, who can arrest a king. Only about 60,000 men are full citizens, the Phymun. They are trained in the Anvil and fight as the finest heavy infantry alive, while the far more numerous Bound work the land and the Outdwellers work as craftsmen and traders. The realm worships Kharnoth the Unbroken and the Ancestors, uses iron bars as internal money, and despises trade; its gold comes from Caelvenne under the Iron Contract of 1131, which lapses in 1147; King Lekakor wants out of it, and the Thirty are expected to vote against renewal.
