Uusung Ice Camps

The camps of the Uusung, some twenty of them, each named for its place, spread across the Pale Waste; about five thousand people in all. They keep reindeer, hunt seal, have no writing, and speak a language no Hrodvald knows but Statha the Far-Seer, with a long voice for speaking to the dead. The camps meet once a year, at the Long Dark's vigil, and otherwise never. They honor animal spirits and the Northern Lights, which they say are the dead walking home, and no Uusung hunts the frost bear that was once a man.
