The Seven-Arched Bridge

The seven-arched stone bridge carries Hethlend across the Wenvorm and was finished in 244, after the old timber bridge collapsed in the flood of 231. Legend says the old bridge groaned under any pretender and went silent under Hethmed Tulvard, and that no Aldmere king is truly king until he has walked its seven arches alone at dawn without the bridge speaking; every king has done it, but Prince Hethbael has not yet. People do not whistle on it, because the arches count the notes and the seventh belongs to the Quiet Hearth. Small bridge crayfish hide under its stones.
