Charnazin of Tontanor

The first steppe state in memory, founded in 455 when the chieftain Shaghis the Gray united the horse tribes, with a walled capital at the Tontanor fords. It terrified its neighbors for fifty years and attacked Kaishon's unfinished Long Rampart for nine years in the Rampart War (461–470), which cost Kaishon a hundred thousand conscripts and taught it to build the repeating crossbow. In 502 Shaghis's grandson was murdered by his own tribes, who resented the taxes of a settled kingdom, and the charnazin collapsed in a single summer. Its settled people scattered to farm along the Tsanha and are remembered as the Tontanor Ghosts, some of whom Sarsak Tolmar has now called home by name.
