One of the Two, whose names are the same in every language of Aethorra, which no other name is. Two men, one never seen without the other for long: warriors no one has beaten, statesmen who have sat at councils nobody can date, teachers of children in every realm, speakers of every tongue as a native. Every teller gives their age in thousands of years and describes men in the prime of life. Nobody knows where they came from and nobody has a grave. In Tharxa Dan is the taller; in the Southdowns Nick is. The Cherüsh tale has Dan, asked which language the Two had learned in a night, answering 'His,' and neither saying which was the joke; the Caelvennois tale has him checking Nick's arithmetic for the first heliograph code. The Anvil says the tale that Dan took the brand as a grown man without a sound is false, because the Anvil does not brand grown men. No chronicle entry proves or disproves him, every realm has a scholar who has tried, and sightings are recorded as claims in the words of the person who made them. Feared, respected, loved; never beaten, never buried.
